The end of the year period is, as we all know, a time for all kinds of abuses… bad taste playlists, profusion of green and red, endless meals and of course food and alcohol. With the end of the year just around the corner, I wanted to give you a few tips on how to survive the first of January without banging your head against the wall. Being convinced by the effects of essential oils that I use on a daily basis for all sorts of ailments, or in anticipation (see my article on essential oils to boost your immune system).
A little health aside: Be careful before using essential oils, if you suffer from epilepsy or asthma talk to your doctor. The same goes for pregnant women and young children. Some essential oils or synergies may not be suitable or their concentration should be lower…
Essential Oils for Hangover
Hangover, How to relieve it?
The hangover, I do not teach you anything, is caused by an excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks or by mixtures not always advised. The body is dehydrated and the symptoms are more or less intense: headaches, nausea, pain…
Of course, to relieve a hangover there are many recommendations, the most known being to hydrate a lot (if possible before going to sleep, but clearly we are not always in a state to remember it) or as soon as we wake up. During my studies, I was also a big fan of betaine citrate which acted above all on my digestion. Essential oils can also help relieve hangovers and their various symptoms. The essential oils I have selected below can of course be used on a daily basis and will always be useful in a pharmacy. They are also quite easy to find and inexpensive.
Peppermint Essential Oil For Headaches
Peppermint essential oil is the reflex to have when you have a headache. Personally, as soon as the headache arrives I apply a few drops of Peppermint essential oil on my temples and forehead, either pure or diluted in a little vegetable oil. Be careful however this essential oil is quite strong and for having already made the mistake of scratching my eyes afterwards…it hurts a lot!
Peppermint essential oil is an unbeatable ally to fight against the typical hangover headache, it will also restore the liver and help relieve nausea thanks to its refreshing side.
How To Apply Peppermint Essential Oil
The essential oil of Peppermint can be consumed by internet or by external way.
Peppermint Essential Oil For Local Use:
I apply one drop directly on my forehead and one on my temples. Be careful, these are areas close to the eyes, so if you want to take more precautions, apply a few drops on your fingers and massage gently or dilute a little Peppermint essential oil in vegetable oil (or in a little cream).
Peppermint Essential Oil Orally:
2 drops of essential oil of Peppermint, 3 to 4 times a day in honey, on a sugar, under the tongue or diluted in a glass of water for example will allow to act effectively on the digestive disorders typical of the aftermath of evening: nausea, vomiting, indigestion etc.. It will also have of course a soothing effect on headaches.
Attention, the essential oil of Peppermint is not recommended for children under 6 years (we hope that they will not get baked in the New Year at the same time) and pregnant and nursing women. Like all essential oils it is better to go gradually and apply for a first test a drop on his wrist for example to observe that there are no reactions of the body.
Lemon Essential Oil To detox the Liver
Peppermint essential oil already has important qualities to detox the liver but it is interesting to use Lemon essential oil as well. The best in the context of a hangover will be to use Lemon essential oil orally, taking 2 drops of Lemon essential oil per day in honey, sugar or directly on the tongue. It is possible to apply Lemon essential oil on the skin for problems of herpes, warts or acne for example but this is not the topic of the day!
